Well, as I write this article, 2007 has gone in a flash and we are looking to have loads of fun on our local waters. The new slate of officers for 2008 has generously volunteered to donate their time and efforts toward helping our club have an exciting 2008.

As Commodore, I am proud to announce the flag officers: Vice Commodore - Lisa Brice (second year in office) Thank you! Rear Commodore - Jason Richards (second year in office) Thank you! Secretary - Jen and Jason Richards (second year however we need someone to step up to the plate and take this over.) Please see Jen or Jason at the meeting and find out what this position entails. Treasurer - Joe Barrett (second year in office) Thank you!

Also critical to the club's survival are these two positions and thanks goes to them for all their efforts in 2008. Membership- Liz Appling; Web Master - Vic Farmer; Ships Store - Lisa Brice? We need to find someone else to lighten Lisa's load!

I am looking forward to a very exciting year! Our first meeting opens with noted Award winning and Maritime Historian Bob Macomber who will be speaking to us about the history of 'Grog'. I expect this to be a very entertaining and humorous discussion. Don't miss this one! Bob encourages us to bring rum.

We are also excited about this year's
SW Florida Regatta scheduled for March 29& 30th. Thanks to Joe Barrett for arranging for US Sailing speaker Gary JobsonGary Jobson to talk to us at Saturday's cocktail party at the Docks on 5th. Gary is a former All-American collegiate sailor. He won the America's Cup in 1977 as tactician for Ted Turner. As a broadcaster, producer (he is ESPN's Sailing Analyst), lecturer, and writer (he is an Editor at Large for Sailing World and Cruising World magazines), Jobson is the pre-eminent ambassador for sailing in the U.S.

We are very thankful to David Corban for generously allowing us to have our regatta festivities at the Docks on 5th again this year. Also thanks to Lisa Brice, our vice commodore for running the show again this year. Talk to Lisa to see how you can help!

January 21-25 is the Acura Key West Race Week. This is a premier event in the world of sailboat racing with 260 boats and over 3000 sailors from across the world. Let support our members of the GCSC! Gary and Sue Schwarting and crew aboard Obsession, a Melges 24'. Jimmy Doane and crew aboard Flame, a J105. Go on line at www.Premiere-Racing.com to track their progress. Let's wish them a week of good weather and great racing!

We are going to need volunteers for the many tasks we hope to accomplish this year. Please step up and help us all have some fun!

Also, many thanks to the out going flag officers: Commodore - Tom Horner and Membership -Sue Schwarting Thank you for your time, efforts and dedication to the club!! We appreciate all you've done for us! I hope we can bring as much fun to the club as you guys have. As your new Commodore, I humbly accept the charge and promise to do the best of my ability.
